What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is a technique that addresses the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Primarily this type of therapy aims to release the chronic patterns of tension and restrictions caused by overworked muscles by utilizing slower strokes and deeper pressure and/or friction across the grain of the muscle's, tendons, and fascia. Some of the benefits include: the release of constricted muscles, detoxification of lactic acid from the muscle tissue and aids in the healing of scar tissue.

What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage is the most widely offered and well known style of massage therapy. Developed by Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling at the University of Stockholm in 1812. Using firm but lighter and longer strokes to ease tension, improve circulation, and promote a deeper state of relaxation utilizing a combination of long gliding strokes/effleurage, kneading/petrissage, friction, tapotement or tapping, and vibration.

What is "Reiki"?

Reiki is a healing technique that originated in Tibet and has been practiced for over 2,500 years. The term "Reiki" means Universal Life Force Energy. The actual healing takes place by the application of "Chi", which is commonly known as and used by martial artist's; which is the underlying force that the Universe is made of. Reiki can relieve pain, boost the immune system, and relieves acute problems. Often physical manifestations of pain are precipitated from an emotional, mental, and/or spiritual state. Reiki aims to treat the root of the problem not just the symptom based on the premise that the practitioner can channel healing energy from the universe through their hands. Benefits include healing and an enhanced deeper state of relaxation with a feeling of lightness and/or increased sense of "well being".

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the application of pressure, stretch, and movement to the hands and feet, to effect corresponding parts of the body. Through the application of these technique's a reflexologist can break up patterns of stress in other parts of the body. The pressure applied generates a signal through the peripheral nervous system. From there it enters the central nervous system where it is processed throughout other structures in the brain, stimulating the internal organs to facilitate the necessary changes in oxygenand fuel by generating a response in the motor system that aids in the body's ability to innately adjust the overall level of tension and tone systemically in the body by re-establishing a state of balance in the body. This treatment is a great stress reliever.
